Abstract
In this discussion, strategies for physically mapping HSV gene functions associated with significant biologic effects are presented and discussed. They represent an application of molecular biological technologies to complex biologic systems, and are a beginning step in understanding the fundamental basis of herpetic disease. Future studies will involve precise identification of relevant genes, and studies of the important properties of products encoded by these genes. Keywords
