Abstract
Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) has changed rapidly during the past decade in response to theoretical and practical optimization of all aspects of the chromatographic process. To distinguish the modern practice of the technique from its conventional counterpart it has become known as high performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) or instrumental thin-layer chromatography. In keeping with other chromatographic methods labeled “high performance” analysts have come to expect increased separating power and shorter analysis times for separations performed by modern TLC. A detailed account of the state-of-the-art in modern TLC is available in several books (1–7) and review articles (8–16) that have appeared recently. Keywords
