Abstract
H2S seeded in a free jet expansion of Ar is photolyzed by an ArF laser. The liberated free radical fragments react to form S2 molecules, cooled rotationally by the jet to ≲20 K. A detailed rotational analysis of the laser induced fluorescencespectrum of the 2–3, B–X band of S2 reveals localized perturbations due to the B″ 3Π u state of S2. A deperturbation analysis for both 3 2S2 and 3 2S3 4S spectra yields, in conjunction with recent work by Patino and Barrow, values for the rotational constant, spin‐orbit coupling constant, and T e for B″ 3Π u S2.Keywords
