Abstract
Although increasing evidence suggests that there will be a surfeit of physicians in this country within the next three decades, many doctors deny the possibility. Many others believe that new restrictions on the entry of physicians trained abroad — as a result of the Health Professions Educational Assistance Act of 1976 (PL 94–484) — will obviate a doctor glut.In 1950, the number of people per active physician in the United States was approximately 735.
