Abstract
It is reckoned that on the basis of this study it is possible to predict long term the symptomatic state in neurosis with some degree of accuracy. Early environment, the presence and nature of precipitating factors, social factors and the course during hospital treatment, are the most reliable predictors. Symptoms complained of, and diagnosis, were not found to be significant predictors of symptomatic state at follow-up. There is a correlation between the symptomatic state at follow-up and the social state. The two may be used to assess the total outcome in neurosis at long term follow-up.
