Abstract
Iron deficiency remains the most prevalent type of anemia worldwide and anemia of chronic disease the most common type among hospitalized patients. In some cases, these two disorders may resemble each other, causing a diagnostic predicament. Dr Mohler describes the changes in iron metabolism that occur with each of these disorders and identifies diagnostic clues that help differentiate the two. Classic cases as well as variations are discussed. Keywords
