Abstract
The first Devonian fish fauna from South Australia is described from green shale and arkose which came from a depth of 738–860 m from the Munyarai-1 well, north-eastern Officer Basin. The fauna contains the thelodonts Turinia sp. aff. T. australiensis Gross (Emsian-Eifelian), and Turinia cf. T. pagoda Wang et al. 1986 (Middle Devonian), the acanthodian ?Gomphonchus sp., cycloidal scales and cosmine fragments probably belonging to a dipnoan, a crossopterygian tooth, placoderm plate and other bone fragments. The age of the fauna is regarded as probably Middle Devonian. The Munyarai fauna is correlated with the widespread Wuttagoonaspis fauna known from sedimentary basins of Early-Middle Devonian age in western New South Wales and central Australia. Palaeoecology and broader regional correlations are discussed. Keywords
