PLATINUM(II) COMPLEXES CONTAINING α-HYDROXYACETYLENES

Abstract
The structures of complexes of the types M[PtCl3ac] and trans-[PtCl2ac(amine)], where ac = a tertiary α-hydroxyalkyl- or α-methoxyalkyl-acetylene, are described. The coordination of the ligands to the metal is through both the triple bond and the hydroxyl groups. The infrared spectra of the complexes in the O—H stretching region (3 000 – 3 800 cm−1) and the effect on the spectra of the addition of bases to solutions of the free ligand and complexes strongly indicate that the hydroxyl groups are coordinated through the oxygen atom to the metal.
