Abstract
The lung of Dugong with its extraordinary vesicles as respiratory units leads air to the vesicles by a system of tubes and tubules which, however, do not form a typical bronchial tree commonly met with in mammals. Nevertheless, the tubular system indicates that the Dugong-lung is mammalian in nature. The strange air-conducting system may remind an early stage in the evolution of the mammalian lung.
