Abstract
A Working Party considering ‘Competence to Practise’ circulated a questionnaire in March 1982 to all district occupational therapists and equivalent grades in social service departments in the UK to survey current practice in occupational therapy. The results indicate that a wide variety of skills are required by basic grade occupational therapists to deal with a relatively small range of clinical problems for a large number of patients/clients in the middle and older age groups. The information will act as a baseline for further work to proceed to determine what relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes are required of basic grade occupational therapists in order to practise competently. Keywords
