Multijet cross sections in hadronic collisions

Abstract
Multijet events have been extensively studied at the CERN pp¯ collider. The production rates and the topology of the events can be quantitatively understood in the framework of perturbative QCD. There are many ‘‘new physics’’ processes for which such multijet events are an important background. We examine several such processes, including Higgs boson, heavy-quark pair, and heavy Z production. In each case we calculate the signal and background rates and investigate the efficacy of topological cuts on the final states. Our results have important consequences for future very-high-energy hadron colliders.
