Abstract
More than 800 lambs used in 11 trials to compare the efficacy of various fungicides, applied to pasture, in controlling facial eczema were weighed immediately before and after their 6-week period on trial. Liver damage was subsequently assessed on a 0 to 5 scale of increasing severity. Average live-weight change is related to liver damage category within trials. In trials in which lambs in the zero liver damage category gained weight, lowered weight gains were associated with increasing liver damage. Where unaffected lambs lost weight such an association was less clear. It is suggested that lowered live-weight gain in animals on adequate pasture may be due largely to nutritional stress. Keywords
