Abstract
In Ilorin, Nigeria, 78 cases of eclampsia were managed between 1968 and 1987, giving an incidence of 4.2/1000 deliveries. Five hundred thirty-five of the patients were nulliparous and 353 had received some form of antenatal care. There was no apparent change in the pattern of eclampsia over the years. The predisposing factors to developing eclampsia are examined and suggestions offered for the prevention of eclampsia in third world countries. Keywords
