Abstract
At mass flows greater than 4000 kg/m2.s and qualities between 8% and 45%, dryout was observed in Freon-12 upstream from the outlet end of a uniformly heated tubular test section. Upstream dryout has also been observed during other high mass flow experiments: in Freon-12 in multi-rod bundles at the above conditions and in steam-water in tubes at Freon equivalent conditions. Upstream dryout is postulated to occur as a consequence of deterioration of the heat transport properties near the wall in the high mass velocity froth flow regime.
