Abstract
The study of populations and population trends of a forest insect embraces a wide field of activity. By implication, it includes a consideration of all mortality and survival factors. Therefore, in developing this portion of the symposium, it will be necessary to refer briefly to other related topics to be covered later. In addition, to obtain a proper understanding of the subject under discussion, the mode of operation of some population influences that will not be introduced by other members of the symposium will have to be described. Keywords
