Split-Dose Radiotherapy for Bladder Carcinoma

Abstract
Datawere accumulated on 94 patients with carcinoma of the bladder treated with split-dose radiotherapy from 1960 through 1966. Difficulties in accurate clinical staging were stressed, and the Jewett and American Joint Committee (AJC) methods of classification were compared. The AJC staging appeared to discriminate better between the more advanced stages of bladder tumor. The data suggest that the primary objectives of split-dose methodsreduction of radiation morbidity and improvement of ease of patient handlinghave been achieved without apparent sacrifice in overall treatment effectiveness.
