Abstract
Lampetira planeri ammocoetes metamorphose after close to 5 to 6 years of larval life, those of L. fluviatilis after close to 6 years, those of Petromyzon marinus after slightly more than 5 1/2 years of larval life. The ammocoetes of P. marinus commence metamorphosis in the autumn and complete it by about mid-winter; those of the other 2 spp. also begin in the autumn but do not complete metamorphosis until the following spring. The ammocoetes of all 3 species make no increase in length during the winter months and decrease in length during the final stages of metamorphosis. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
