Abstract
We investigate the detectability in a very-high-energy pp collider of a heavy neutral Higgs boson through the decay modes → →eeee (the so-called ‘‘gold-plated’’ events) and → →eeνν, with a special emphasis on the importance of the backgrounds due to the production of +jets and pure standard QCD jets. A realistic Monte Carlo program is used to simulate the characteristics of signals and backgrounds, and filtering strategies for extracting the signals are proposed.
