Abstract
Continuing the search for reliable and objective indices of sedation, studies of skin potential responses have been made in patients and in volunteers. Analysis of the preliminary results in terms of total activity and frequency have been made. In the circumstances peculiar to our trials it appears likely that measurement of total activity will give misleading results, and that measurement of the frequency of skin potential response will be more reliable. The reasons for this are discussed. Preliminary results from volunteer studies are reported in which basal skin potential was measured and from studies in which circulatory and respiratory data were recorded at the same time as the changes in skin potential. Keywords
