THE HEALTHY CARRIER IN SCARLET FEVER

Abstract
Dec. 22, 1927, a boy in the incubation period of scarlet fever was admitted to the boys' ward of the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children. Three days later the rash appeared, and the patient was removed to the isolation ward. December 25, a second case, and Jan. 3, 1928, a third case of scarlet fever appeared in the boys' ward in which the original case developed. These later cases occurred within the usual incubation period of scarlet fever and were considered as contact cases from the original one. As soon as the diagnoses were made, the patients were removed to the isolation ward. The boys' ward was placed in contact quarantine for a week, and no additional cases developed within this period.
