Abstract
The type specific antigenicity in rabbits of type 14 group A streptococci was compared to that of cell walls isolated from these organisms. The presence of M antibody in rabbit sera was detected by mouse protection tests, bacteriostatic assay or the measurement of quantitative precipitins. Cell walls were capable of stimulating the formation of type specific antibodies. However, the titers of M antibody, as indicated by quantitative precipitins, were lower in animals which received cell walls than in animals which received a corresponding number of whole cells. Keywords
