Calibration of the Laser Fluorescence Technique Compared With Quantum Theory

Abstract
The quantum efficiency of the laser fluorescence technique decreases with increasing temperature. This paper reports detailed measurements of the decrease, for five different commercial oils. A comparison with the quantum theory of the decrease is presented. These results can be used to determine the degradation of a lubricant in the ring zone of a running engine, and to calibrate film thickness measurements on adiabalic engines.
