Abstract
A systematic method has been devised for elimination of Compton-scatter for medical ¿-ray images by three dimensional emission tomography. The approach is based upon the collision-expansion formalism which arises from the integral-transport equation and is applicable to a wide variety of object and detector configurations. Approximate correlations for point-kernels are presented which allow considerable savings in computer time and storage requirements. Results for simulated images show that the approach is effective for suppressing scatter background and distortion from sources both in and out of the tomographic slice of interest. Keywords
