Abstract
The pathology of scrapie [in sheep] and other slow viral diseases is reviewed. The similarity between the effect of scrapie and of aging on cellular membranes was discussed. The view was expressed that aging changes in tissues are associated with physicochemical alterations in cellular membranes resulting in the appearance of antigenic determinants which also make their appearance in the tissues of young scrapie animals. This publication has 133 references indexed in Scilit:
