Abstract
In buffer solns. at pH 9-10 uric acid, unlike the other common purines, reacts rapidly with 2:6-dichloroquinone-chloroimide to form a yellow pigment that turns red on addition of Ag+. The test can be used for the colorimetric estimation of uric acid in concns. down to 1 in 100,000 and may be applied directly to urine suitably diluted. The mechanism of the test is discussed, and other color reactions of the reagent are tabulated.
