Abstract
Transient spontaneous disappearance of the machinery murmur in an otherwise typical case of patent ductus arteriosus unassociated with pulmonary hypertension is described. Observations of blood pressure changes, physiologic dead space variations in the upright and horizontal postures, and the anatomy of the ductus arteriosus suggested that shunt flow was absent or markedly reduced during the periods in which the murmur was inaudible. Keywords
