Abstract
Developmental disabilities are reviewed from the standpoint of definition, service systems, and interventions. Definitions from relevant laws outline the characteristics of the population and of the services necessary to meet rehabilitative needs. Intensive, comprehensive, coordinated, on-going delivery mechanisms are emphasized, including vocational, residential, and generic services. Careful management of alternate settings and altered expectations and attitudes can maximize the developmentally disabled person's participation in the habilitation process and in society. Keywords
