Inositol metabolism in the mammalian heart

Abstract
The inositol was extracted after disintegration of the fresh heart muscle (dog) by boiling 10% aqueous potash, crystallized and weighed. Survival changes in the muscle were accompanied by an increase in the inositol content. The inositol came from 3 sources: some free in the muscle, some held in combination and liberated by the alkali, and the 3d fraction[long dash]termed the "newformed" inositol.
