Abstract
Total electron-impact ionization cross-section measurements are presented for calcium, stontium, barium, and thallium. These and previously determined cross sections for the alkali metals are compared with available techniques for calculating cross sections. Because of the difficulty of both the experimental measurements and the calculations, it is perhaps surprising to find agreement generally better than a factor of 2.Keywords
