Abstract
The vascular pattern of the Rhesus monkey cochlea was demonstrated by the aid of contrast injection. The capillary areas are very similar to the human, rabbit, and guinea pig cochlea. One significant exception is the unfrequent occurrence of a vessel under the tunnel of Corti. Further, the capillary areas of the external wall at the basal end of the cochlea are more well formed than in the other mammals. The course and ramification of the veins in the modiolus is more irregular than in the rabbit and guinea pig cochlea and more similar to the human cochlea. The irregular occurrence of the vessel under the outer hair cells indicates that the Rhesus monkey is a particularly interesting animal for cochlear research.
