On the Absorption Spectrum of Cytochrome a3

Abstract
Approximate spectra of cytochrome a and cytochrome a3 were calculated from the spectra of purified pig heart cytochrome oxidase. The calculation was based on the following two assumptions. The approximate cytochrome a spectra thus obtained agreed well with the available data. The approximate cytochrome a spectra showed, in many respects, similarities to the spectra of hemoprotein enzymes and hemoglobins, especially to the spectra of lactoperoxidase. The approximate spectrum of cytochrome a3 carbon monoxide complex agreed very closely with the photochemical action spectrum of the respiratory enzyme.
