Abstract
In celebration of the achievement of its first ten years of publication, as noticed in the January 1979 issue, the Journal of Librarianship invited this general review of the progress of the periodicals of librarianship and information science during that decade. Pro fessional publications increased slightly in number over the period due, mainly, to the appearance of small circulation, special interest, periodicals usually of a non-commercial nature. Some established journals adapted to novel circumstances by changing their editorial policies. The changes suggested that the profession was evolving a more complex system of communication. Paradoxically these developments occurred during a period of severe economic difficultics for periodical publishers. Keywords
