Abstract
One hundred and fifty-five cases of intervertebral disk infection were collected both from the literature and from the authors' records. Five clinical symptom complexes characterize the syndrome. These are back, hip-leg, meninges, abdomen, and irritable child. Many cases were misdiagnosed initially because of the similarity of symptoms to those of other conditions. The disease is peculiar to children, probably because of a special blood supply to the disk which atrophies with age. Treatment is empirical. Keywords
