Status of the White Pelican in the United States and Canada through 1964

Abstract
A continental survey for each of 2 years indicates a breeding population for 1963 of 36, 200 and for 1964 of 40, 067 white pelicans. Most were in the United States. The total breeding and nonbreeding adult population for 1963 was 44, 220; for 1964 it was 45, 100. There has been a decline in the major colonies as indicated by an earlier survey made in 1931-32, but several new colonies have been established, A general eastward shift in the breeding population has occurred to the central part of the county. An inventory is given for all known colonies for each state and province for the 2-year study.
