Abstract
Sulfate is reduced to sulfide in sheep rumen and also in vitro using a washed suspension of rumen contents under various conditions. In vitro using hydrogen gas as hydrogen donor, the opt. pH of the reduction is around 6.5. Sulfite and thiosulfate are also reduced to sulfide. In addition to hydrogen gas, the following hydrogen donors were also effective: glucose, formate, fructose, lactate, pyruvate, succinate, ethanol, citrate and malate. Keywords
