Abstract
The Gouy method is used to determine the principal magnetic susceptibilities of bismuth single crystals grown by the method developed by Goetz. The specific susceptibility is shown to be a constant in all directions perpendicular to the principal crystallographic axis with a value of —1.487×106. Parallel to the main axis the specific susceptibility is a minimum and has the value —1.046×106. The mean is given then as —1.340×106.
