Abstract
The influence of chromium on the physical and magnetic properties of sputtered Fe, Co, Ni, Fe/Ni, and Co/Fe thin films has been studied. The room temperature magnetization decreases linearly with the addition of Cr; more rapidly for Ni and Co than for Fe-Cr alloys. Low coercivity films were obtained only for Fe/Ni films with up to 8 at.% chromium. Small saturation magnetostrictions were observed in CoFeCr films with Fe and Cr respectively in the 10 to 30 and 7 to 15 at.% range. Keywords
