Sources of Organizational Power for Women in the Health Care Field

Abstract
Women in the health care field continue to be situated in occupations and positions that have low status, low salaries, and offer little obvious opportunity for advancement. A number of positions that are emerging in today's health care system are held by women and are potentially powerful. If the power is understood and used to the advantage of colleagues in the context of organizational mission, gender will not be a controlling factor. This paper looks at why some positions in health care are viewed as sources of organizational power, and how social workers can use them strategically.
