Abstract
A mathematical analysis is presented which simulates the electro-optic characteristics of a dichroic display cell containing a mixture of a negative dielectric anisotropy nematic liquid crystal, a dichroic dye, and a chiral component. The numerical results obtained from this analysis are in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. The influence of the elastic, dielectric, and optical properties of the mixture, and the role of the chiral component, are studied for a static system. The conclusions drawn from these studies have enabled the desirable physical properties of the liquid crystal mixture to be determined. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
