Abstract
Studies relating to the pollution control of vehicular exhaust require the ability to determine mixtures involving 100–2000 ppm. NO and NO2 in air. A GC method for this purpose is described in which such problems as the irreversible adsorption of NO and NO2 on column packing, the interaction of H2O with NO2, NO and O2, and the air oxidation of NO on the column have been resolved. Using electron capture detection, a column has been devised for the determination of NO, NO2 or NOx in concentrations as low as 10 ppm in air, employing direct injection of the sample without previous trapping. The method has been used in laboratory scale experiments designed to simulate vehicular exhaust conditions. Keywords
