Feeding Behaviour and the Morphology of the Thermoreceptors in Python Reticulatus

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse the relationship between form and function of the thermoreceptors in Python reticulatus. Analysis of the feeding behaviour showed an activity of the receptors in four phases of the behaviour: alertness, head turning, strike and search of the head of the prey animal. The thermoreception plays different roles in these behaviour phases. By means of design of models it could be proven that various parts and various structural features of the thermoreceptor are well adapted to these particular functions.
