Abstract
Three methods to quantitatively measure sebaceous gland surface lipids in man were used. A comparison of the information they produced and their routine practicabilities were given. Adaptation and standardization of the Schaeffer and Kuhn-Bussius method, using photoelectric absorptiometer and ground glass plates, were described. This procedure, applied to 32 adults, demonstrated the quantitative nature of the sampling mechanism. A mathematical approach gave the precise definition of the casual level. This procedure showed that casual level values were correlated with skin types. Keywords
