Effect of Feeding Stilbestrol and Urea on Ration Digestibility and on Retention of Calcium, Phosphorus, and Nitrogen in Lambs

Abstract
Twelve wethers fed a fattening type ration were used in 4 digestion and balance trials to study the effect of adding stilbestrol to rations containing either urea or cottonseed meal as a protein supplement. A significantly greater digestibility of crude protein and significantly lower digestibility of ether extract were found for lambs fed rations containing urea as compared with those fed rations containing cottonseed meal. Stilbestrol feeding had no significant effect on the digestibility of ration nutrients. The feeding of stilbestrol significantly increased daily N, Ca, and P retention. The increase in N retention was immediate but the increase in Ca and P was delayed until the wethers had been fed stilbestrol for at least 7 days.
