Abstract
Reviews of early records and recent field studies suggest that only three native mammals, excepting man, occur on Unalaska Island, Alaska. The impoverished mammalian fauna is evidence that the Aleutian Islands west of Unimak Pass have been isolated from the mainland since the end of the last Wüurm-Wisconsin glaciation. No evidence could be found of a shrew, Sorex hydrodromus, once reported from Unalaska.
