Abstract
Eight hundred and eleven strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated in Canadian hospitals were serotyped by the method of Lanyi. Strains of serogroup 4 were found to be predominant (25.4%). Six serogroups, namely 4, 3, 7, 2, 5, and 6 comprised close to 75% of the isolates studied. There was no correlation between serogroups and the source of isolates, on one hand, and some biophysical properties of the strains (mucoid colony type, pigment production), on the other. The same serotype of Pseudomonas aeruginosa persisted in most of the patients. Many of them, however, yielded a different serotype in follow-up studies.
