Abstract
When a statistical relationship has to be described between two variates that are both subject to errors or fluctuations, the standard major axis, advocated recently in this journal under the name GM regression, is unsuitable. The ordinary major axis or, even better, the bivariate structural relationship, which includes the ordinary major axis as a special case, should be preferred. Keywords
