Low income and housing in the Dutch welfare state

Abstract
During the past forty years, the government of the Netherlands has adopted a range of programmes aimed at providing all households with a decent income, irrespective of their position in the labour market. Working people enjoy the benefit of minimum-wage laws and protection against the financial effects of sickness, disability and unemployment. Those who cannot work, or no longer work, receive welfare, social security, or help through a host of other programmes.
