Abstract
It is shown that the linear muffin-tin orbitals (LMTO) in the atomic sphere approximation (ASA), when used to calculate optical properties, give satisfactory results. This fact is illustrated by calculating the optical properties of Al and Fe with full LMTO and LMTO-ASA and then comparing them with experimental data. Keywords
