Abstract
A simple model is developed for predicting the two-dimensional temperature distribution ahead of and behind a flame front in vertical downward flame prop agation over a thick combustible solid. In the model, heat conduction in the solid from the burning region to the unburnt fuel ahead of the flame front is con sidered to be the major mode of energy transfer. Predictions are in agreement with experimental results reported in the literature. Keywords
