Abstract
Ion-charge state distributions during vacancy cascades followingK- andLI-shell ionization are calculated using a Monte Carlo simulation. The probabilityP(n) thatnelectrons are ejected after primary ionization is given as a function of atomic number in the regionZ= 7 toZ= 60. The calculations are accomplished by tracing successive radiative and non-radiative transitions and the electron shake off process as an additional effect. Radiative and non-radiative transition rates have been calculated as relativistic wave functions. Keywords
